Many of Ford's new models use this filter, and it looks like the FL820S is slowly being phased out. The mounting orientation or the material used for the ADBV should have nothing to do with the bypass valve setting.

Feb 26, 2013 · The 820's is the worst of the MC lineup. Many more reports of torn FL820S than the FL500S. Not sure if the bypass valve setting is the same for both. FL500S bypass valve is set to 17 PSI per Purolator who makes them. There must be a reason why Ford specs the FL500S for the 2015+ Coyote. And on my 2013 F150. I don't have any good explanation for that, but am happy that he did. I've read the specs on both and bottom line, they are considered interchangeable, the FL-820S is FAR larger than the 500, and the FRP race filter is based on the 820, not the 500.
